Brine Concentrators
Power plants that are designed for minimal or zero water discharge typically have evaporators or concentrators that remove minerals and solids from plant water for recirculation. Typically this process involves high nickel alloy mist eliminators installed in vapor bodies of evaporators to ensure high purity water for boiler feed or other applications.

Koch-Otto York typically recommends DEMISTER® Mist Eliminators, which can help achieve a purity level of 1 to 50 parts per million (ppm) total dissolved solids (TDS), or FLEXICHEVRON® Mist Eliminators if brine buildup is excessive.

Flue Gas Desulfurization
Koch-Otto York offers many varieties of vane-type mist eliminators to facilitate wet scrubbers used to scrub sulfur dioxide at coal fired power plants. For more information, request our brochure: FLEXICHEVRON® Mist Eliminators for Flue Gas Desulfurization.

In addition to supplying the mist eliminators, Koch-Otto York provides analysis of moisture carryover through the mist eliminator via the Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer (PDPA). Lube Oil Vent Mist Elimination
Gas and steam turbines utilize recycled lubricating oil for seals and bearings within the unit. As the oil is recycled back to the turbine oil reservoir, sub-micron oil mist escapes from the vent to the atmosphere causing accumulation of oil on roofs, buildings, equipment, and creates safety issues.

Koch-Otto York uses FLEXIFIBER® Type BD Mist Eliminators to eliminate the oil droplets and recirculate the coalesced droplets back to the oil reservoir. This same type of technology can also be applied to reciprocating compressors and venting of crankcases. To read more about this application, refer to our application bulletin “Turbine Lube Oil Reservoir Vents,” which is available by completing a request form. A technical paper, “Lubrication Oil Reservoir Mist Elimination,” is available by completing a request form.

Steam Purity
Downstream solids carried from steam drums can cause scaling on superheated tubes, resulting in localized overheating and equipment failure. Therefore, mist removal is important in steam production systems.
DEMISTER® Mist Eliminators or a combination of wire mesh and chevron technology, known as a DEMISTER-PLUS™ Mist Eliminator, are typically the separation technology of choice. Wire-mesh mist eliminators have demonstrated their ability to meet the stringent requirements of steam purity.
