Acid Regeneration
Many types of mist eliminators are used in sulfuric acid plants. The amount and type of mist generated in a given location in a sulfuric acid plant can vary greatly depending on the specific plant, its age, design, and operation.

Sludge acid and spent acid typically involve a gas purification section where DEMISTER® or FLEXICHEVRON® Mist Eliminators are used prior to the drying towers. Because the spent acid contains hydrocarbons that are subsequently burned, generating water and a weak acid, corrosion in the drying tower is typically higher than sulfur burning plants.

High alloy DEMISTER mist eliminators are often used in the drying towers. Another option is to use FLEXIFIBER® Type IC-K Mist Eliminators.

Interpass and final absorption towers typically use FLEXIFIBER® Type BD or FLEXIFIBER® Type IC mist eliminators.

Alkylation
Alkylation offers a variety of liquid/liquid coalescer applications.

Koch-Otto York has successfully installed liquid coalescers in the hydrocarbon feed prior to the alkylation reactor using a variety of products depending on the application specifics.

Retrofitting acid settlers with Koch-Otto York liquid/liquid coalescers produces tremendous savings for the refinery in acid recovery, improved alkylate, increasing settler capacity, and decreased downstream corrosion for flares, knockout drums, and piping.

Koch-Otto York has excellent experience with the effluent neutralization section related to the acid wash, water wash, alkaline water wash, depropanizer feed, or DIB feed drums. This is addressed by our liquid/liquid coalescer products.

Amine
Koch-Otto York offers ultra high efficiency mist elimination for both amine absorbers and amine regenerators. DEMISTER® Mist Eliminators Styles 194 and 4833 maximize amine solvent recovery for H2S and other sulfur removal systems. In addition, Koch-Otto York provides liquid/liquid coalescers to maximize hydrocarbon recovery prior to the regenerator and minimize amine makeup.

General Mist Elimination
Koch-Otto York offers unparalleled experience for all refinery processes when it comes to the control and elimination of mists, emulsions, and aerosols that are typically counterproductive in the refinery.

As refineries become more sophisticated, they require more capacity, less waste, and must increase both liquid and vapor purity. Koch-Otto York is continually developing new technologies, using state-of-the-art analysis tools, and offering a broad base of products to handle the thousands of processes occurring every day in refineries across the world.

Liquid/Liquid Coalescing
Typical refineries have much to gain in improving the separation of two immiscible liquid phases. From overhead receivers and accumulators to improving performance and capacity of caustic and water wash applications, liquid/liquid coalescers can significantly improve bottleneck situations and improve product quality.

Koch-Otto York offers coalescer pilot plant options either at our facility in Houston, Texas, or with an on-site, skid-mounted system that utilizes the actual customer process, which can assure an accurate evaluation of the coalescer application.

Product Blending
As various petroleum products are blended, washed, and possibly neutralized (if acidic), the products can accumulate aqueous contamination that must be eliminated or brought to within specification. Water haze can be eliminated with Koch-Otto York liquid/liquid coalescers, improving blending time, decreasing operating costs for salt drying or clay filters, and reducing water accumulating in downstream tankage.
