Absorption Towers
Final and interpass absorption towers typically use FLEXIFIBER® Type BD or Type IC Mist Eliminators depending on the design of the acid plant. Acid mist droplet size and droplet quantities can vary significantly depending on the source of the sulfur dioxide, oleum production, and so forth. Koch-Otto York can correctly determine the appropriate mist eliminator in all of these applications to meet the customers needs.

Smelting of ores often produces flourides that will corrode glass and glass fibers. In these instances, the recommended product is FLEXIFIBER® Type BD Carbon Fiber Mist Eliminators manufactured with special carbon fiber.

Drying Towers
For sulfur burning plants bringing in atmospheric air, drying towers typically use DEMISTER® Mist Eliminators or FLEXIFIBER® Type IC-K Mist Eliminators.

For metallurgical plants utilizing sulfur dioxide from the smelting process, acid mist formation is typically smaller in diameter, more corrosive, and a greater quantity. This requires more efficient types of DEMISTER mist eliminators or more efficient impaction-type fiber beds such as the FLEXIFIBER Type IC-M or FLEXIFIBER Type BD mist eliminators.

Gas Conditioning prior to Acid Plant
In mining applications where ores are being roasted to liberate the metals, scrubbing of the vapors from the ore roaster must be done prior to the sulfuric acid plant.

Typically, the scrubbing process involves a large amount of dust and solid particulate. Using the FLEXICHEVRON® Mist Eliminator can successfully eliminate the mist associated with the scrubbing process without the potential of fouling. The open design of the FLEXICHEVRON mist eliminator ensures low pressure drop, cleanability, dependability, and typically low maintenance.

Oleum Vent Systems
In the manufacturing of sulfuric acid, oleum is produced or transferred. In the process, the oleum may be vented and subsequently the fumes need to be collected, converted to sulfuric acid, coalesced, and removed.

Koch-Otto York provides skid-mounted oleum vent systems using the FLEXIFIBER Type BD mist eliminator technology in addition to the blower and a hydrolysis section to convert the oleum to sulfuric acid.
