Koch Otto-York liquid-liquid coalescer systems are created using combinations of Koch Otto-York products such as knitted wire and co-knit mesh, structured packing, and parallel plates, and are used to separate immiscible fluids. The combination of products in each coalescer system will vary depending on the application. High separation efficiency can result in only a few parts per million (ppm) liquid dispersion in the liquid effluent stream.

Often existing separator drums have either no internals, or very crude internals, resulting in inefficient liquid-liquid separation. Koch Otto-York coalescer products can be designed and manufactured to easily retrofit existing vessels, often without welding to the vessel shell. New applications are custom designed to handle multiple liquid and gas phases. Coalescer systems can be offered as the complete package including the vessel, liquid distributors, coalescing media, the mist eliminator, and vortex breakers.

Product applications are broad because most CPI and refining industries have numerous opportunities for better liquid-liquid separation to improve their processes. Processes that can benefit from Koch-Otto York coalescers include removing haze from distillates, product separation in overhead reflux drums, separation after product washing to remove water, salts and caustic, numerous refinery alkylation opportunities in both the main settler and the effluent treating system, glycol and amine towers, and wastewater treatment.
